The STRL resides in the Bede Island building.

High Performance Computing Facilities

The High Performance Computing facilities consists of a cluster of 8-processor and 2-processor nodes. The nodes share a common fileserver (12TB). The status of the cluster can be checked online.

IOCT cluster details

The IOCT cluster is a mixture of SMP and DMP, and consists of 40 AMD Opteron 848 processors running at 2.2GHz with 112 Gb Memory distributed as follows:

Nodes

  • 1 Iwill 8501 Server (SMP):
    Server has 8 Opteron 848 processors running at 2.2GHz and 32 Gb Memory
  • 12 Iwill 2105 server (DMP):
    Each server has 2 Opteron 848 processors running at 2.2GHz and 4 Gb Memory
  • 4 Supermicro graphics nodes (DMP):
    Each graphic node has 2 Opteron 848 processors running at 2.2GHz, 8 Gb Memory and a Nvidia FX4400 graphics card

Interconnect

The interconnect used in the IOCT cluster is Infiniband. The nodes are connected using PCI-X and HTX Infiniband connector cards. Furthermore we a have 24 ports Infiniband switch. Openmpi and OpenFabrics Enterprise Distribution is used for MPI applications.

Software

The operating system of the IOCT cluster is Redhat Linux 4. Furthermore we use the Intel compiler suite and Torque/Maui grid software for job submission management.
