Brief Description
The aim of this project is to develop a content management system
for an online cookbook, that provides
-
An interface through which cooks can read recipes,
and search for them according to types of need (for example,
food that can be cooked hours in advance and cooked slowly before
being served without much effort needed near mealtime), or the
ingredients (such as what to do with a lot of mushrooms), or the
cuisine (for example, Latin American), or dishes that would complement
other dishes (for example, what would go with a boeuf bourgignon).
-
An interface through which cooks can add, modify, comment on and
add variants to recipes.
-
An interface through which the site administrator can moderate and
modify the information offered by the system as needed.
Variants
There are a variety of ways the online cookbook could be organized as
a social activity, according to the purpose of the project.
-
A moderated open project to develop a collective online cookbook,
perhaps focusing on a particular kind of food or a particular
audience or need (for instance, microwaves can be used for serious
cooking but there's a lack of information out there on how).
-
A restricted group with membership (and login procedures) working
collaboratively on a joint project.
-
A single user tool, for a cookbook writer or a restaurant chef-proprietor
or a serious hobby cook, who is interested in cataloguing recipes or in
testing them repeatedly with variants and optimizing them before releasing them.
-
A system for use in a domestic science food tech class
or in a primary school, for a class or group activity involving describing and refining
recipes or exploring variants on one recipe.
This could also include tutorials in techniques, or information about ingredients
or cooking processes, or ways of organizing the material in the site as a
sequential cookery course, possibly for schoolchildren or students.
